Enacting vulnerability as resistance through bodily politics
In this paper I analyze the ways in which the social movement called the PAH (Platform for people affected by mortgages) mobilizes vulnerability as a form of resistance through various collective political actions in the city of Madrid. I follow stop eviction actions, the occupation of banks and financial offices as well as public plazas as a performative claim against the effects of the burst of the housing bubble of 2008, austerity policies and the curtailments to the freedom of expression in the country. I analyze these practices as strategies that activists use to enact socio-economic vulnerability through their bodies. By doing this, I argue that these vulnerable bodies resist the very powers of precarity.
