A study of the cooperation of organizations regarding social issues

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has a dimension of risk management. Recently, conflict minerals is one of key point to note of human rights on supply chain. It is important for companies how to handle or manage these problems. The way of response to these risks affects company’s reputation. Before all, company should respond in a sincere manner. The purpose of this study is to clarify the cooperation among homogeneous and heterogeneous organizations through a case study of the issue about conflict minerals. There are three steps of cooperative action for social issues by organizations. First, some companies acting to prevent conflict minerals from being mined, used and sold. These companies are HP, Dell and IBM. Second, the cooperation between organizations occurs in relation to social issues. Which are Responsible Business Alliance(RBA), Responsible Minerals Initiative(RMI) and Responsible Labor Initiative(RLI). Third, NGOs (Human Rights Watch, Free The Slaves), industry groups(RBA, RMI, RLI), official facilities(SEC: Securities and Exchange Commission, AICPA: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) and international organizations(United Nations, OECD) as well as companies are seems to concern networking. Currently, HP, Dell and IBM are front runner in these issues. It’s notable that the movement private organizations preceded prescribed a movement of public organizations. Finally, cooperation among homogeneous and heterogeneous organizations is important to build the environment.
