Cultural Heritage of Tadvi Bhil in Maharashtra
The indigenous knowledge of Tadvi Bhil depicts cultural heritage survival through continuing the traditional cultural practices in various form,Tadvi Bhil tribe of Maharashtra resides in the area of Satpuda mountain range. Tadvi Bhils of Jalgoan in Maharashtra converted to Islam which is believed to have taken place during the times of Aurangzeb (1658-1707CE), and Tadvi Bhils since then they continue to be Muslims. The Satpuda lies between the spiritual rivers Narmada and Tapti which acts as means of natural resources for Tadvi Bhil. Minor forest produces, earlier hunting, working as agricultural laborers and agriculturalist is the means of livelihood of Tadvi Bhil. The art of expertise archers is depleting which was used for hunting or gathering. Festival celebrated by Tadvi; Pola festival depicts the animistic/totemic/spiritualistic relationship with nature in Maharashtra. It is the key priority to protect the cultural heritage; cultural practices reflected in marriage ceremonies, death rituals, festival celebrations, indigenous cosmological traditions practiced by Tadvi Bhil; knowledge of medicinal plants/herbs their properties, uses and importance, vow practices seen in fair believing the Pir. Attention has to shift towards the measures for securing the survival of cultural heritage among the Tadvi Bhil tribe of Maharashtra.
